Isoamyl Acetate

Isoamyl acetate is an ester aroma component with a distinct banana and tropical fruit scent. Its aroma is lively and diffuses quickly, making it a key top note ingredient in fruit fragrances used to create an “instant recognition” effect.

Acquisition Methods

Natural extraction or chemical synthesis

It is naturally present in the aroma of fruits such as bananas and pears, but industrial applications are mainly synthetic. It is produced by esterification of isoamyl alcohol and acetic acid under catalytic conditions. The process is mature and suitable for large-scale stable production.
